Our visit to the Carson City Correctional Facility was a great day of fellowship with the men we had met back in May 2013 after having done a first time concert there. We promised the prisoners that we would come back and so we we’re eager to see them again.
Wayburn and I remember meeting an older gentleman there who told us that “his heart had become so hardened after living a life of sin for so long”
He said, “he had been in prison for 40 years and had never once cried a single day, until today at the concert”. He was truly moved and we we’re more than humbled, we we’re grateful to think how good God was to have us come here to deliver a message that would bring His child to tears and opening his eyes to begin the healing process. It was moving to see tears filling his eyes, as he held our hands and asked us to pray for him. How deep was that pain he harbored in his heart, shame and guilt had penetrated his soul. Only the message of a loving God could break down that kind of pent up hurt and tear down the walls of hatred. God is the great rebuilder and restorer.
Psalm 147:3 God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Now back at Carson City again the Chaplain met us at the door with great excitement. The prisoners we’re ready for worship and a day of giving Glory to God. A concert is not at all a usual event for prisoners and for this opportunity these men are thankful. Prior to our coming we always mail ahead posters with concert details inviting the prisoners to sign up for the concert. This gives them something to look forward to, and also gives the Christians who are there an opportunity to invite those who don’t believe to come and hear God’s Word through music. Most people love music, and they love getting out of their cells. So, Concerts are a great tool to spread the good news of Christ and His forgiveness.
The prison church exploded as Wayburn sang again the songs of hope and redemption. Wayburn encouraged the men to sing and lift their voices toward heaven. They cheered, clapped and had a wonderful time of fellowship
Ardo Draper resident Pastor of Calvary church gave a wonderful message and shared his testimony with the men. Ardo has a special gift of quoting scripture and it’s only through God’s word that the brokenness of mankind can be saved. As he gave the invitation, 10 men raised their hands to be saved. We are in contact with the warden for follow-up with those men who received Christ. We are thankful and we give God all the glory.
Matthew 9:37 Then he said to his disciples. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Please contact us and see how you can become a part of our team as we go into a ripe field ready to be harvested, we need many workers. Nothing else is as important as leading souls to Christ.
