June 19th was the day of our big “Father’s Day” concert at E.C. Brooks facility in Muskegon. It was such a blessing as we took with us our dear friend and brother Bob Weston, an evangelist from Jamaica. We first met him on a mission trip in Jamaica, where we shared our music and together we proclaimed the gospel in the infirmaries, churches and streets. It was beautiful to see him preach the good news to his people.
There are many fathers in the prisons, so for a “Father’s Day” treat we took 400 donuts with us, donated by Marge’s Donut Den. We thank God for her kind and generous heart.
The men were extremely happy and thankful for the delicious treats. 29 volunteers joined us, friends from one of Wayburn’s men’s Bible studies and from different churches who wanted to see what Inside Prison Ministries was all about.
Before the concert began, a young man thanked me for the coffee and donuts. I asked him if this was the first time he’d ever come to one of our concerts. He replied, “Yes, in fact—I’ve only been to three church services in my life.” He continued by telling me he was “investigating Christianity.” He explained, “You see, I’m with the Nation of Islam. In fact, I’m one of the leaders and I’ve personally recruited 150 men to the Muslim faith.” I said to him, “It looks like God is seeking you and I will pray that tonight you will hear Him calling and answer His voice. I don’t believe this is an accident that you came here.”
Just then, Wayburn came up and I introduced them and told Wayburn of his investigation of Christianity. Wayburn asked him what it was that made him interested. His answer was a pleasant surprise to us: “I have been amazed at the love that the Christians have for one another and that love has drawn me in.” I encouraged him, “Please listen carefully to our music and the message from God’s Word.” Hallelujah, God did call his name that night, as this young Muslim had the courage to come forward and give his life to the Lord. Please keep Malik in prayer as he shared that his life will be in great danger for his decision to follow the Lord.
